Her blade's made of Damascus steel, but her handles are Mokume-Gane. Mokume-Gane is a Japanese art. It dates to about 1650AD. Mokume-Gane literally translates, "wood grained metal." It looks similar to Damascus, but Mokume-Gane is a dramatically different technique. The Mokume-Gane used in this knife was made by the same Devon Thomas who made the blade steel. This is not a painted-on pattern or a surface finish. Like Damascus steel, the pattern is part of the metal.
